Jim Jeffcoat will not return as defensive line coach at Houston. Jeffcoat had been on staff at Houston for three years. The coaching tree has come up with three potential replacements:
Calvin Thibodeaux is currently a graduate assistant at Houston, working mainly with the linebackers. He has been a GA with the Cougars for three seasons after finishing his playing career at Oklahoma and a brief stint in the CFL.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- GA at Houston (2008-present)
- Played defensive line at Oklahoma from 2003-2006. Kevin Sumlin coached tight ends and special teams at OU from 2003-05 and was the Sooners' offensive coordinator in 2007 and '08 before coming to Houston.
Oscar Giles is the defensive ends coach at Texas, where he has been since 2005. Giles is a Texas graduate, so wouldn't likely leave for Houston, but Mack Brown has made it clear that changes coaching changes will be made after their disappointing season, so Giles may be let go along with other assistants.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- DL coach in 2003 and '04 at Houston. Coached with offensive coordinator Jason Phillips, who coached the Cougars' wide receivers from 2003-06.
- Played with Phillips with the Atlanta Falcons from 1991-93
Buddy Wyatt is the defensive line coach at Kansas, where he recently finished his first season. Wyatt has been a DL coach for 19 seasons, coaching at Minnesota, Oklahoma St., Northwestern, Colorado, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Nebraska in addition to Kansas.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- DL coach at Texas A&M in 2001 and '02. Kevin Sumlin coached wide receivers for the Aggies in '01 and was the offensive coordinator in 2002.
- Coached defensive line at Minnesota from 1992-95. Sumlin coached the Golden Gopher wide receivers from 1993-95.
I need to see more track record please, and more potential candiates (FBS etc..)
