Carl Pelini has reportedly been named the new head coach at Florida Atlantic. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:
Mike Stoops - ex-Arizona Head Coach
- Assistant coach at Kansas State from 1992-98. Worked with Tim Beck, who was a GA, in '92.
- DB coach at Iowa from 1989-91. Bo Pelini was a graduate assistant for the Hawkeyes in 1991.
- Side note: can you imagine Stoops and Bo screaming at officials side by side? Madness, but could be a good fit.
Mike Ekeler - Indiana Co-Defensive Coordinator
- LB coach at Nebraska from 2008-10.
- Graduate assistant at LSU from 2005-07, working under Bo Pelini, who was the Tigers' defensive coordinator.
- Played at Kansas State from 1991-94. Tim Beck was a GA at K-State in 1991 and '92.
Doug Colman - Tulane Linebackers Coach
- Intern at Nebraska in 2008 and '09, Pelini's first two seasons as head coach.
Jimmy Burrow - Ohio Defensive Coordinator
- DC at Ohio since 2005, where he worked with current Nebraska LB coach Ross Els.
- Graduate assistant at Nebraska in 2001 and '02. Worked on staff with Ron Brown, and John Garrison was an offensive lineman for the Cornhuskers at the time.
- Played defensive back at Nebraska from 1972-75. Played one year with Barney Cotton, who was a freshman offensive lineman in '75.
