Jason Tarver left to become the new defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders. Tarver was the co-defensive coordinator at Stanford along with Derek Mason, and he also coached inside linebackers. It remains to be seen if the new coach will be a co-coordinator or just a position coach. Here are three potential candidates to replace Tarver:
Fred Pagac - ex-Minnesota Vikings Defensive Coordinator
- LB coach for the Vikings from 2006-10. Derek Mason was the Vikings assistant DB coach from 2007-09.
- LB coach for the Raiders from 2001-03. David Shaw was on staff in Oakland from 1998-2001.
- Was on staff at Ohio State from 1980-2000, working his way up from graduate assistant to LB coach to defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. He worked on staff with Randy Hart from 1982-87 when Hart coached the Buckeyes defensive line.
Greg Biekert - ex-Oakland Raiders Linebackers Coach
- Played LB for the Raiders from 1993-2001. David Shaw was on the Raiders staff from 1998-01.
DJ Durkin - Florida Linebackers/Special Teams Coach
- Coached defensive ends and special teams at Stanford from 2007-09. He worked on staff with David Shaw, Mike Sanford, and Lance Anderson.
- Seems content at Florida, but may be lured back with the chance to be a co-coordinator.
