Western Michigan Wide Receivers Coach

Mike Grant has left Western Michigan to become the running backs coach on Dan McCarney's staff at North Texas. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:


Kirk Ciarrocca - ex-Rutgers Offensive Coordinator
  • Offensive coordinator at Delaware from 2002-07. Defensive coordinator Dave Cohen was the defensive coordinator at Delaware from 2002-05.


Mark Carney - Bowling Green Wide Receivers Coach
  • Played quarterback at Fordham from 1998-2001. Dave Cohen was the defensive coordinatro at Fordham from 1999-2001 and safeties coach Rich Nagy coached at Fordham from 1998-2000.


Greg Peterson - Northern Colorado Offensive Coordinator
  • Wide receivers coach at Kansas State from 1995-2005. Bob Stanley was the offensive line coach at Kansas State from 2003-05 and was a graduate assistant for the Wildcats in 2000 and '01.

Northwestern Wide Receivers Coach

Kevin Johns has left Northwestern to become the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator on Kevin Wilson's new staff at Indiana. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:


Gregg Brandon - Las Vegas Locomotives (UFL) Tight Ends Coach
  • Head coach at Bowling Green from 2003-08. Mick McCall was his on his staff from 2003 until coming to Northwestern in 2008.
  • WR coach at Colorado in 1999 and 2000. Pat Fitzgerald was the Buffaloes linebackers coach in '99.
  • WR coach at Northwestern from 1992-98. Was on staff with Jerry Brown, and Fitzgerald played for the Wildcats from 1993-96.


Zach Azzanni - ex-Florida Wide Receivers Coach
  • WR coach at Bowling Green from 2003-06. Mick McCall was the quarterbacks coach before taking over as offensive coordinator in 2007.


Dino Babers - Baylor Wide Receivers/Special Teams Coach
  • Offensive coordinator at Texas A&M in 2001 and '02. Mike Hankwitz was the defensive coordinator at A&M from 1997-02.
  • Coached receivers at Arizona from 1995-97 before becoming the offensive coordinator, a role he held from 1998-2000. Marty Long was the defensive line coach at Arizona from 1996-2002.


Conroy Hines - ex-North Texas Wide Receivers Coach
  • Coached at Louisiana Tech from 1992-2009, serving as offensive coordinator from 2001-06. Randy Bates was the defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech from 1999-2005.

Washington Redskins Tight Ends Coach

Jon Embree has left the Washington Redskins to become the new head coach at Colorado. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:


Pete Hoener - San Francisco 49ers Tight Ends Coach
  • 49ers TE coach from 2005-10. Offensive line coach Chris Foerster was the Niners' OL coach in 2008 and '09.
  • Coached at Purdue from 1989-91. Running backs coach Bobby Turner was the offensive coordinator at Purdue from 1991-94 and assistant defensive backs coach Steve Jackson played at Purdue from 1987-90.
  • Offensive coordinator at Indiana State from 1978-82. Bobby Turner was the RB coach at Indiana State from 1975-82.


Bob Palcic - UCLA Offensive Line Coach
  • New Orleans Saints TE coach from 2000-05, when defensive coordinator Jim Haslett was the Saints head coach.
  • Cleveland Browns OL coach in 1999, where he worked with Bob Slowik, who was the Browns defensive coordinator.
  • Offensive line coach at Ohio State from 1986-91. Bobby Turner was the Buckeyes RB coach in 1989 and '90.


Tim Brewster - ex-Minnesota Head Coach
  • Head coach at Minnesota from 2007-10. Assistant special teams coach Richard Hightower was the wide receivers coach at Minnesota in 2009.
  • TE coach for the Denver Broncos in 2005-06, working under head coach Mike Shanahan.
  • Coached the San Diego Chargers tight ends from 2002-04. WR coach Keenan McCardell played for the Chargers from 2004-06.
  • TE coach at Texas from 1998-2001. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Richard Hightower both played for the Longhorns while Brewster was there.


Jeff Davidson - ex-Carolina Panthers Offensive Coordinator
  • Offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints in 1995 and '96. Jim Haslett was the Saints LB coach in '95 before becoming the defensive coordinator in 1996.
  • Played for the Broncos from 1990-92. Mike Shanahan was the QB coach in Denver in 1990 and '91.
  • Played at Ohio State from 1986-89. Bobby Turner coached at OSU in 1989 and '90.


Tim Salem - Central Florida Tight Ends/Special Teams Coach
  • Coached at Purdue from 1991-96, where he coached with Bobby Turner from 1991-94.
  • Played his freshman year at Minnesota in 1980 before transferring to Arizona State. His father Joe was the head coach at Minnesota from 1979-84, and hired Mike Shanahan as his offensive coordinator in 1979.


Ralph Friedgen - ex-Maryland Head Coach
  • Offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech from 1987-91. Special teams coach Danny Smith was an assistant at GT from 1987-94.
  • Offensive coordinator at William & Mary in 1980, where Smith was an assistant from 1980-83.

Cleveland Browns Head Coach

Eric Mangini has been fired as head coach of the Cleveland Browns after two seasons and a record of 10-22. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:


Jon Gruden - former Buccaneers/Raiders Head Coach
  • Green Bay Packers wide receivers coach in 1993 and '94 after starting as an offensive assistant under head coach Mike Holmgren in 1992.
  • Offensive quality control coach with the San Francisco 49ers in 1990. Holmgren was the 49ers' offensive coordinator from 1989-91.


Marty Mornhinweg - Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator
  • Has been on Andy Reid's staff in Philadelphia since 2003. Browns general manager Tom Heckert was with the Eagles from 2001-09.
  • QB coach under Mike Holmgren with the Packers in 1996 after starting as an offensive assistant in '95.
  • Played for Holmgren in high school at Oak Grove in California.


Steve Mariucci - former Lions/49ers Head Coach
  • Green Bay Packers QB coach from 1992-95 under Mike Holmgren.

Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator

Charlie Weis will leave after the playoffs to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Florida under new head coach Will Muschamp. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:


Josh McDaniels - ex-Denver Broncos Head Coach
  • New England Patriots assistant coach from 2001-08. Romeo Crennel was the defensive coordinator for the Patriots from 2001-04. DL coach Anthony Pleasant and defensive quality control assistant Otis Smith played for the Pats when McDaniels was there.


Brian Daboll - Cleveland Browns Offensive Coordinator
  • Assistant coach with the Patriots from 2000-06, where he worked with Crennel, the DC, and Pleasant and Smith, who played for the Pats.


David Lee - Miami Dolphins Quarterbacks Coach
  • QB coach for the Dolphins since 2008. Special teams coach Steve Hoffman was the Dolphins' assistant special teams coach in 2007 and '08.
  • Assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 2003-06, serving as the QB coach in 2005 and '06. Todd Haley was the Cowboys' WR coach from 2004-06. Maurice Carthon was the Dallas offensive coordinator in 2003 and '04, Richie Anderson played for the Cowboys from 2003-05, LB coach Gary Gibbs was the 'Boys linebackers coach from 2002-05, and Steve Hoffman was an assistant from 1989-2004.
  • QB coach at Ole Miss from 1978-82. Romeo Crennel coached the Ole Miss defensive line in 1978 and '79.


Rip Scherer - ex-Carolina Panthers Quarterbacks Coach

  • Coached running backs at Tennessee in 2004 and '05 before taking over the receivers from 2006-07. He was on staff with Dan Brooks for each of those four seasons.


Jeff Beckles - Troy Running Backs Coach
  • Played wide receiver at Florida State from 1990-93, where Brad Scott was his offensive coordinator.


Willie Simmons - Middle Tennessee State Running Backs Coach
  • Graduate assistant at Clemson in 2006.

Ricky Rahne has left Kansas State to become the quarterbacks coach on James Franklin's new staff at Vanderbilt. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:

  • Offensive coordinator at Wyoming from 1997-99 and at Houston from 2000-02 under Dana Dimel, who was the head coach at both schools.


Jonathan Hayes - Cincinnati Bengals Tight Ends Coach
  • Played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1985-93. Played one year with WR coach Michael Smith, who played for the Chiefs in '92.
  • Played at Iowa from 1981-84. Bill Snyder was his offensive coordinator and Del Miller was also an assistant coach for the Hawkeyes.


Darrell Dickey - ex-New Mexico Offensive Coordinator
  • Played quarterback at Kansas State from 1979-82.
