Oklahoma Tight Ends Coach

With Kevin Wilson leaving to become the head coach at Indiana, Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell will take over as co-offensive coordinators. Oklahoma still needs to fill tight ends coaching position. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential replacements:

Dave Johnson - West Virginia Offensive Line Coach
  • TE coach at Georgia from 2001-07, where he coached with defensive backs coach Willie Martinez, who was at Georgia from '01 until coming to OU this season.

Greg Peterson - Northern Colorado Offensive Coordinator
  • Coached at Kansas State from 1994-2005. He coached with both Bob Stoops and Brent Venables, who both spent time at K-State.

Jonathan Hayes - Cincinnati Bengals Tight Ends Coach
  • Tight ends/special teams coach under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma from 1999-2002.
  • Played at Iowa from 1981-84, where he was teammates with Stoops and Jay Norvell.

Scott Downing - ex-Northern Colorado Head Coach
  • Tight ends coach at Nebraska from 2003-05. Jay Norvell was the Cornhuskers' offensive coordinator in 2004 and '05.

Other names in consideration: Derek Lewis, ex-Minnesota; Alex Wood, Miami (Ohio); Phil Meyer, Southern Illinois.
