Ole Miss Head Coach

Houston Nutt will resign at the end of the season, as will the Rebels' athletic director. The replacement is tough to predict without an AD to tie to, but looking at coaches with ties to the school as well as ties to Archie Manning, who will lead the search for a new head coach. That being said, the coaching tree has come up with three possibilities:

Hugh Freeze - Arkansas State Head Coach
  • Worked at Ole Miss from 2005-07, starting as assistant director of football operations ('05), then went on to coach tight ends ('06) and wide receivers ('07) for the Rebels.

Frank Wilson - LSU Running Backs Coach & Recruiting Coordinator
  • Coached RBs and special teams at Ole Miss from 2005-07.

John Chavis - LSU Defensive Coordinator
  • (This is a stretch, but here it is) - Defensive coordinator at Tennessee from 1995-2008 after coaching LBs for the Vols starting in 1989. While there, Peyton Manning became a star QB. Peyton is of course the son of Archie Manning, who is leading the search committee for Ole Miss.
