Stanford Special Teams Coach

Brian Polian has left Stanford to join Kevin Sumlin's staff at Texas A&M.  Here are some names that could possibly replace him as special teams coach for the Cardinal:

Matt Weiss - Baltimore Ravens Quality Control Coach
  • Was on staff at Stanford from 2005-08, working as a defensive and special teams assistant.

Dave Fipp - Miami Dolphins Assistant Special Teams Coach
  • Assistant special teams coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 2008-10, where he worked on staff with Jason Tarver, who coached the Niners' outside linebackers.

Clayton White - UConn Running Backs/Special Teams Coach
  • Coached defensive backs and special teams at Western Kentucky in 2010, where he worked with Mike Sanford, who was the Hilltoppers' offensive coordinator in '10.
  • DB coach and assistant special teams coach at Stanford from 2007-09.  During his stint with the Cardinal, he worked with Sanford, David Shaw, and Lance Anderson.

Troy Walters - ex-Texas A&M Wide Receivers Coach
  • Played at Stanford from 1996-99.
  • Has never coached special teams, but was a very good kick and punt returner during his eight year NFL career.

Other names in consideration:
  • Keith Murphy, New Mexico State
  • Jason Glenn, ex-Vikings
  • Kevin O'Dea, Bears
  • Duce Staley, Eagles
  • Jamie Christian, ex-Arizona State
