The Florida Gators are in need of a new defensive line coach after Dan McCarney left to become the new head coach at North Texas. McCarney was at Florida for three seasons. The coaching tree has come up with four potential replacements:
Randy Hart is in his first season as defensive line coach at Stanford after a year at Notre Dame and 21 seasons at Washington.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- Coached at Washington from 1988-2008, spending time on staff with TE coach Brian White, safeties coach Chuck Heater.
- DL coach at Ohio State from 1982-87. Heater was the Buckeyes' DB coach from 1985-87.
Paul Pasqualoni is currently the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. He spent the previous two seasons as the DC of the Miami Dolphins. Before entering the NFL in 2005, Pasqualoni was the head coach at Syracuse from 1992-2004, where he had a record of 107-59-1.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- Coached with Teryl Austin at Syracuse from 1996-98.
- Coached with Steve Addazio at Syracuse from 1995-98.
- Addazio was also his OL coach at Western Connecticut State in 1985 and '86.
Bill Sheridan is the inside linebackers coach with the Miami Dolphins, where he is in his first season after five years with the New York Giants. If hired, expect Sheridan to coach linebackers and DJ Durkin to coach the defensive line.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- Coached defensive line and linebackers from 2002-04. Florida QB coach Scot Loeffler was the QB coach at Michigan at the same time and DC Teryl Austin coached the Wolverine defensive backs in 2002.
- Special teams coach at Notre Dame in 2001, where Steve Addazio was the OL coach from 1999-2001.
John Palermo is in his first year coaching the defensive line at Middle Tennessee. Prior to that, he spent two years as DL coach for the Washington Redskins.
COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
- DL coach at Wisconsin from 1995-2005. Brian White was the RB coach from '95-98 and the offensive coordinator from 1999-2005.
- DL coach at Notre Dame in 1988 and '89. Chuck Heater was the Fighting Irish's defensive backs coach while Brian White was a GA at the same time.
Other names in consideration: Anthony Weaver, Florida (GA); Chris Rippon, Marshall (DC); Stan Eggen, Louisiana Tech (DL)
