Texas Offensive Coordinator

Greg Davis resigned as offensive coordinator at Texas after 13 seasons. After a disappointing 5-7 season, it was clear that changes would be made to the coaching staff, and Davis was first to go. The coaching tree has come up with three potential replacements:

Major Applewhite is in his third year as the running backs coach at Texas. Prior to returning to his alma mater, Applewhite was the offensive coordinator at Alabama in 2007 and at Rice in '06.

COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
  • RB coach at Texas from 2008-present.
  • Graduate assistant from 2003-04.
  • Played quarterback for the Longhorns from 1998-2001.

Tim Brewster was the head coach at Minnesota from 2007 until he was fired in the middle of this season. In three plus seasons leading the Gophers, Brewster had a record of 15-30. Prior to his time in Minnesota, he was a TE coach in the NFL for five seasons.

COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
  • TE coach at Texas from 1998-2001.
  • Coached tight ends and special teams under Mack Brown at North Carolina from 1989-97.

Todd Dodge was most recently the head coach at North Texas before being fired mid-season. In three plus seasons, Dodge totaled 6 wins and 37 losses. Prior to North Texas, Dodge was a highly successful high school coach in Texas, winning four state championships at Southlake Carroll.

COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
  • Played quarterback at Texas from 1982-85.
