Texas Offensive Line Coach

Mac McWhorter has retired after nine years at Texas and 31 seasons as a college coach. McWhorter was one of multiple coaches to leave the Texas staff which has been together for a long time. The coaching tree has come up with three potential replacements:

Eddie Williamson is currently the offensive line coach at TCU, where he is in his tenth season. Williamson also has experience as a coordinator and head coach. He was the head coach at VMI from 1985-88, where he had a record of 10-33-1, and has been an offensive coordinator at Wake Forest, Texas Southern, and Baylor.

COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
  • Offensive coordinator at Wake Forest in 2000. WR coach Bobby Kennedy coached running backs at Wake Forest on the same staff.
  • Offensive line coach from 1993-97 at North Carolina under head coach Mack Brown.

Bob Stanley is in his fourth season as the offensive line coach at Western Michigan. He has been an OL coach at 11 different schools, and was the offensive coordinator at Purdue from 1988-90.

COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
  • OL coach at SMU in 2002, when defensive ends coach Oscar Giles was the defensive line coach for the Mustangs on Phil Bennett's staff.
  • OL coach at Texas in 1986.
  • Played at UT from 1964-67.

Tim Davis has been the offensive line coach at Minnesota since 2008, but is likely out of a job with Jerry Kill being hired as the new head coach of the Golden Gophers. Davis has gained a lot of experience as an offensive line coach in college and spent two years in the NFL.

COACHING TREE CONNECTIONS:
  • Assistant offensive line coach with the Miami Dolphins from 2005-06. Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp was the Dolphins' assistant head coach in 2005 under Nick Saban.
  • Graduate assistant at Arizona in 1987. Defensive backs coach Duane Akina was in his first year as the Wildcats' DB coach in '87.
