Fresno State Head Coach

Pat Hill has been fired as head coach at Fresno State after 15 seasons and a record of 112-80 including 4 bowl victories and 9 eight plus win seasons. The coaching tree has come up with the following potential candidates:

Jim McElwain - Alabama Offensive Coordinator
  • Offensive coordinator at Fresno State in 2007.

Frank Cignetti - Rutgers Offensive Coordinator
  • Offensive coordinator at Fresno State from 2002-05.

John Baxter - USC Special Teams Coach
  • Coached special teams, wide receivers ('02, '04-08), and tight ends ('97-01, '03, '09) at Fresno State from 1997-2009.
  • Coached linebackers and special teams at Maine in 1989. Fresno State athletic director Thomas Boeh was the associate athletic director at Maine in 1988 and '89.
  • Student assistant at Loras College from 1981-85, where he received his degree in physical education. Thomas Boeh graduated from Loras with a degree in PE in 1981. We cannot confirm whether or not the two ever crossed paths in the year 1981, but certainly an interesting tidbit nonetheless.

Mike Martz - Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator
  • Assistant coach at Fresno State in 1979.
