Houston Coaching Staff


Tony Levine has been hired as the new head coach at Houston, replacing Kevin Sumlin.  Here is our projection of some possible candidates to fill Levine's staff:

QUARTERBACKS COACH


Kliff Kingsbury* - Houston Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach
  • Has spent the last two seasons as Co-OC and QB coach at Houston after two seasons as a quality control assistant with the program.
Jeff Brohm* - ex-Illinois Quarterbacks Coach
  • Coached QBs at Louisville from 2004-08, including spending his final season as the team's offensive coordinator.  Tony Levine came to Louisville in 2003 as director of football operations and went on to coach outside linebackers and special teams in 2004 and '05.

RUNNING BACKS COACH


Clarence McKinney - Houston Running Backs Coach
  • Has been the RB coach at Houston since 2008.

WIDE RECEIVERS COACH


Jason Phillips* - Houston Co-Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach
  • Worked on staff with Kevin Sumlin at Houston since 2008.

OFFENSIVE LINE COACH


Joe Gilbert - ex-Illinois Offensive Line Coach

  • OL coach at Houston in 2008.
Lee Hays - Tarleton State Offensive Coordinator

  • Graduate assistant at Houston in 2010.

DEFENSIVE LINE COACH


Carlton Hall - Houston Defensive Line Coach
  • Joined the Houston staff as DL coach in 2011.
Todd Howard - ex-Washington State Defensive Line Coach
  • LB coach at Louisiana Tech from 2000-02.  Tony Levine was the tight ends and special teams coach at Louisiana Tech in 2002.
Calvin Thibodeaux - Dartmouth Defensive Line Coach
  • Graduate assistant at Houston in 2008 and '09.

LINEBACKERS COACH


Jamie Bryant - Houston Linebackers Coach
  • Spent the 2011 season as LB coach at Houston.
John Skladany* - ex-Central Florida Defensive Coordinator
  • Defensive Coordinator at Houston in 2008 and '09.

CORNERBACKS COACH


Zac Spavital - Houston Cornerbacks Coach
  • Has been on staff at Houston since 2008.
Mike Gillhamer* - ex-Illinois Defensive Backs Coach
  • DB coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2004-10.  Tony Levine was the Panthers assistant special teams coach in 2006 and '07.
  • Defensive coordinator at Louisville in 2003.  Tony Levine was the director of football operations at Louisville in '03.
Mike Cassity* - Marshall Cornerbacks Coach
  • Defensive coordinator at Louisville from 2004-07, where he spent three seasons on staff with Tony Levine, who coached outside linebackers and special teams for two seasons after starting as the team's DFO.

SAFETIES COACH

Brian Stewart* - Houston Defensive Coordinator/Safeties Coach
  • Has worked as Houston's defensive coordinator for the last two seasons.
Chad Glasgow* - ex-Texas Tech Defensive Coordinator
  • Safeties coach at Texas State in 1998 and '99.  Tony Levine coached tight ends at Texas State from 1997-99.
