Tom Herman has left Iowa State to become the quarterbacks coach at Ohio State. The coaching tree has come up with the following two potential replacements:
Jay Johnson - Louisiana-Lafayette Offensive Coordinator
- Offensive coordinator at Southern Miss from 2005-2007, where Courtney Messingham was an assistant, coaching WRs (2005-06) and RBs ('07).
- Offensive coordinator at Truman State in 1995 and '96. Messingham was his RB coach.
- Played QB at the University of Northern Iowa from 1988-92. Messingham was also a QB for the Panthers, playing from 1985-89.
Joe Moorhead - UConn Quarterbacks Coach
- Coached at Akron from 2005-08, starting as WR coach in '05. He became the QB coach in '06 and was the offensive coordinator in 2007 and '08. Bill Bleil coached RBs at Akron in 2005 and '06 and was the TE coach in 2007 and '08.
